DESIGN

Hebei Grand Hotel, Anyue (2023)

Grand Hotel, Anyue draws inspiration from the ancient city of Zhengding, the hotel synthesises elements from classic Chinese architecture with the needs of modern society. With a masterplan inspired by the ancient city, the hotel is north-south oriented with two medium-rise towers and 60 villas orthogonally arranged along the central axis. The hotel towers offer a total of 200 guest rooms and are designed with single-loaded corridors to maximise river views for the suites. By shifting and staggering the resort-style villas secluded pocket spaces are created. Traditional architectural elements are reinterpreted and incorporated throughout the hotel, from façades, pitched roofs and iconic pillars to courtyards and guestroom interiors.

GREY'S CABIN, Cambridge (2022)

Stepping away from city life is often essential for creative inspiration. Grey's Cabin, designed by ECP, serves this purpose as a live-work retreat for creative artists, located in the fields near Cambridge.

This off-grid, self-sufficient modular cabin is prefabricated in large sections and powered by Tesla Powerwall Packs recharged by solar panels. Wastewater is treated with an underground system, while the exterior timber is preserved using Yakisugi, a Japanese charring technique, giving it a look reminiscent of black tar barns.

KODE Studio, Gyeong-Ju (2019)

The building, a combined café and artists' retreat, is located across from Hyangilmun, the eastern gate of Gyeongju Fortress, a site with over 1,000 years of history from the Silla era. It stands on a 50-square-meter plot, with only 33 square meters remaining after adjustments for neighboring properties. Facing the sunrise, Hyangilmun Gate aligns with the narrow side of the land. The client requested a design that is both visually striking and harmonious with the materials used in nearby buildings—primarily timber and concrete. The floor area is around 30 square meters, with a total space, including the terrace, of just 130 square meters.

Underground Terrarium, Stockholm (2022)

We crafted a design narrative for a private client in Stockholm, focusing on creating a space that amplifies the intimate connection between the environment and the human body. The client wanted a space that would evoke a deep sensory experience. Our design emphasizes this connection, recognizing the uniqueness of a space that interacts so closely with the body. As one moves through the space, a gentle breeze awakens the senses, encouraging a process of self-discovery and redefining one’s identity through the sensory experience of the environment.
